From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standardized Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless connections, and other technologies. The Internet carries a vast array of information resources and services, most notably the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail, in addition to popular services such as online chat, file transfer and file sharing, online gaming, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) person-to-person communication via voice and video. The origins of the Internet reach back to the 1960s when the United States funded research projects of its military agencies to build robust, fault-tolerant and distributed computer networks. This research and a period of civilian funding of a new U.S. backbone by the National Science Foundation spawned worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies and led to the commercialization of an international network in the mid 1990s, and resulted in the following popularization of countless applications in virtually every aspect of modern human life. By 2009, an estimated quarter of Earth's population uses the services of the Internet (see Growth). From Wikipedia under the

Smart and globe telecommunications are quite popular wifi providers here. Smart costs 999 php monthly subscription and I think it is the same with globe. With regards to availablity, yes it is very convenient for people that cant be reached by landlines however unlike sattelite tv like dream, wifi's still has to be in range of the network signals much like cellphones. Answered by AllanHP - Wed Mar 26 01:49:02 2008 How do internet cafes work when you have a laptop? Q. I am getting a new laptop soon and I'm wondering how Internet cafes work. Do they use WIFI? Will I need to buy any extra equipment to acess the Internet or will they just have a cord that I can plug into my computer? Thanks! Asked by Lafg M - Thu Mar 13 14:59:44 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Make sure you have a wireless card installed in your laptop; preferably 802.11a/g/n. Most, but not all, already have one installed. You'll see a little computer icon in the tray in the lower left hand corner of your screen indicationg whether you've picked up the cafe's signal or not. You can also click on it and choose other signals that are in range. Now security is another issue ;) Answered by aleksander39 - Thu Mar 13 16:33:47 2008 How to Limit Internet bandwidth and speed for other computers?
Q. Basically, here's the scenario. My brother tends to run these vigorous programs, such as that of Utorrent, and hogs up the whole bandwidth in the house. When he does these kinds of activities, I am unable to navigate through the internet effectively; even as simple as checking my email! There anyway to limit his internet speed? A method that he won't know it's actually going on. Thanks! Asked by Philosophical One - Mon Nov 17 03:03:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It depends on the router you have. most newer wireless n routers have this function in the setup page: type your routers default ip address in the adress bar of your web browser and the default user name and password when prompted. you then can usually allocate bandwith however you desire by packet type or port or program or computer via the router setup page Answered by joseph d - Mon Nov 17 03:50:16 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Internet" Quotations about the Internet Sourced
