A. 1. Introduction The nature of mobility for mobile networks needs additional mechanisms for providing security. These vulnerabilities do not exist in a fixed wired network. Therefore, the traditional way of protecting networks with firewalls and encryption software is no longer sufficient. Can i install intrusion detection system and firewall in the same computer or there is a conflict like?
Q. setup two antivirus programs in the same computer.And which one is better in protection intrusion detection system or firewall. A. Yes, but it depends which ones. For example, a lot of linux people use both snort (IDS) and firewall. As for which is better protection, the IDS doesn't protect you against attacks, it just tells you about them. But it can help find out about other infected computers too, by recording where attacks come from. Black Ice though I think is more firewall than IDS. Also the free ones are just as good as the ones you're talking about. An IDS is only as good as the community of users writing new rules for it, that's why everyone likes Snort so much. There's a Windows version as well.

A. Network IPS can be somewhat disruptive. It is certainly a worthwhile technology, but it is important to bring the right people into the fold. A. Yes, you can certainly slow your network down, particularly if you don't plan carefully. Any intrusion detection system you consider buying should give you a features list, including how much throughput it can handle. You can get security solutions which doesn't cause noticable slowdowns on your network, as long as your management team is good about allowing you to budget appropriately. For instance, if you were using Cisco's ASA5520 in a place in your network where you had 1000Mb moving though every second, you'd have a noticable slowdown, as it's designed to handle 450Mb per second. With a 5550, you shouldn't notice a slowdown.

A. In most cases the detection system will tell you when you have been intruded upon, the prevention system will keep the intrusion from occurring! Some systems offer BOTH services, in that they will tell you they detected and blocked an intrusion (that is detection and prevention) Both are needed. Think of it this way, detection is like a home alarm system, it will tell when someone breaks in, the prevention system will then be the COP inside the house that arrests the intruder before he does any harm. (A really good cop will nab them before they get in!)

Then I need to know what operating systems you have on the computers before I can give any type of detailed instructions. If you goto a good school they will help you get interns in the summer so that when you do graduate you can go right into your field. A. A well rounded foundation is the key to being a good security engineer/analyst. Typically you need to have a little knowledge in a lot of systems just to understand how the devices work. Network+ is a good building block to understand how data networks interact with one another and the devices that make that happen. Security+ will be valuable no matter if you go into security or systems administration. Security+ lays out a very nice foundation with basic security knowledge. Certifications like CISSP and SANS are definitely higher level. (CISSP alone requires at least 5 years of hands on experience). A. There are quite a few types. It all depends on your needs. If you are looking at firewall and intrusion detection, Blackice and eEye are good. eEye has a free version which does very good intrusion detection.
