Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about themselves and thereby reveal themselves selectively. The boundaries and content of what is considered private differ among cultures and individuals, but share basic common themes. Privacy is sometimes related to anonymity, the wish to remain unnoticed or unidentified in the public realm. When something is private to a person, it usually means there is something within them that is considered inherently special or personally sensitive. The degree to which private information is exposed therefore depends on how the public will receive this information, which differs between places and over time. Privacy can be seen as an aspect of security — one in which trade-offs between the interests of one group and another can become particularly clear.

The right against unsanctioned invasion of privacy by the government, corporations or individuals is part of many countries' privacy laws, and in some cases, constitutions. Almost all countries have laws which in some way limit privacy; an example of this would be law concerning taxation, which normally require the sharing of information about personal income or earnings. In some countries individual privacy may conflict with freedom of speech laws and some laws may require public disclosure of information which would be considered private in other countries and cultures.

Privacy may be voluntarily sacrificed, normally in exchange for perceived benefits and very often with specific dangers and losses, although this is a very strategic view of human relationships. Academics who are economists, evolutionary theorists, and research psychologists describe revealing privacy as a 'voluntary sacrifice', where sweepstakes or competitions are involved. In the business world, a person may give personal details (often for advertising purposes) in order to enter a gamble of winning a prize. Information which is voluntarily shared and is later stolen or misused can lead to identity theft.

How would it breach a woman's right to privacy if the state prohibited abortion clinics and medication?
Q. If the state just refused to accept a duty to permit abortion services and medication, how would this infringe on a pregnant woman's right to privacy? Obviously the Supreme Court ruled that a state cannot restrict abortion, but how was it inferred from a right to privacy that the infrastructure itself must therefore be permitted? It's a private matter if she self-performs and practically it would be difficult to police anyway so that's why the issue is not whether abortion itself should be legal but whether there is a duty imposed on the state to permit the infrastructure or medication necessary for its performance. abortion medication* Not all medical procedures are permitted however. You can chose any legal medical procedure and yes… [cont.]

A. The decision in Roe v Wade actually hinges on the justices designating abortion to be a "fundamental right." This was not really new, the right to procreate had long been considered a "fundamental right." It is only a small leap of logic to assume then that the right to not procreate was also a fundamental right. In order to infringe upon a fundamental right, the state must prove a "compelling state interest." Hence, it was ruled that a woman's "fundamental right" to not procreate outweighed any state interest until such a date that the fetus was "viable" (able to live outside the womb). "Fundamental rights" were initially interpreted from the Fifth Amendment and applied to the states through the 14th Amendment. Hence, you get a… [cont.]

Q. I live in town and have a 6' privacy fence but my next door neighbor can still see over my fence from his house. Is there a privacy screen filter for laptops that is easily detachable?
Q. Im looking for a privacy screen filter like the ones 3M makes but Id like for it to also be easily detachable. I wanna use it at times such as during class and have it easily removed when watching movies on my laptop with friends or something. From my knowledge, the 3M filters are removable but I dont think its to the extent at which Id be removing it. Im looking for something that I can put on and take off frequently and easily without damaging the product. Any suggestions?

  • For what reason have I this vast range and circuit, some square miles of unfrequented forest, for my privacy, abandoned to me by men? My nearest neighbor is a mile distant, and no house is visible from any place but the hill-tops within half a mile of my own. I have my horizon bounded by woods all to myself; a distant view of the railroad where it touches the pond on the one hand, and of the fence which skirts the woodland road on the other. But for the most part it is as solitary where I live as on the prairies. It is as much Asia or Africa as New England. I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself.
  • The saint and poet seek privacy to ends the most public and universal: and it is the secret of culture, to interest the man more in his public, than in his private quality.
  • Who could deny that privacy is a jewel? It has always been the mark of privilege, the distinguishing feature of a truly urbane culture. Out of the cave, the tribal tepee, the pueblo, the community fortress, man emerged to build himself a house of his own with a shelter in it for himself and his diversions. Every age has seen it so. The poor might have to huddle together in cities for need’s sake, and the frontiersman cling to his neighbors for the sake of protection. But in each civilization, as it advanced, those who could afford it chose the luxury of a withdrawing-place.
